Mossel Bay Municipality is a caring Municipality, and the community of Mossel Bay is always willing to get involved in making a difference for fellow residents.
A great example of this is the Great Brak River Youth Café, an ongoing partnership with the Western Cape Government.
The doors of the Great Brak River Youth Café are open to youth (ages 18-35) not currently enrolled in formal education and training as well as those not formally in employment .
Within the GROW Social Pillar of our GROW Strategy, we have had many successes for which I applaud both the Portfolio Chairperson, Alderman Niklaas Booisen, and the Director of Community Services Elize Nel.
Under the banner of the Make A Difference (MAD) campaign, the Mayoral Committee has regularly met with nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations making a meaningful difference in Mossel Bay and looked at where we can partner in the spirit of the saying, “many hands make light work”.
My visit to the Great Brak River Youth Café this afternoon was yet another opportunity to celebrate an organization working hard to make a difference in the lives of young people in Mossel Bay.
The Great Brak River Youth Café offers internet access and computer access to budding entrepreneurs and aspirant job-seekers. In addition, the facility also boasts opportunities and training in Digital Training, Entrepreneurship, Life Skills Sessions, Event Management, Leadership development ,Creative Design and Project Management. These opportunities for further education and training also align with the GROW Economy Pillar of the GROW Strategy as young people in our communities are afforded access to skills that will help them become professionals and entrepreneurs that help build the town and economy of ICONIC Mossel Bay!
